It reflected the enthusiasm and commitment of a great many people who dedicated their time and energy to brighten up the town over the Christmas period.
However, it has been brought to my notice that a few people took exception to my remarks concerning the withdrawal of the Guardian Newspapers from the Best Dressed Window competition.
There was no intention to discredit the Guardian, merely a simple explanation of the facts and that it was to the town council's credit that they had picked up the competition at short notice.
The town council acknowledges that the Guardian Newspapers have kindly allowed the continued use of the silver trophy.
It will be a pity if this is allowed to cast a shadow over a memorable switch-on.
