FIREFIGHTERS attended a smoke-filled Royal Mail train on Monday night at 9.23pm.
The driver was alerted to smoke in one of the carriages and stopped the train around half a mile from the signal box in Deakin's Road.
The power on the electric lines was shut off before appliances from Winsford and Northwich investigated.
Leading firefighter Andy Banks said: "We opened the carriage up and it was full of smoke and it turned out to be an electrical transformer that had overheated. There was no damage to the mail, just another delay."
