Tenants say they are fed up of cars being targeted
FRUSTRATED residents in an 'horrendous' corner of Winsford are calling for safer parking before they suffer any more vandalism.
Wesley Court, next to Winsford United's ground, looks like a haven of peace with its bungalows and greenery, but residents claim first impressions can be deceiving.
The disabled and elderly community is plagued by youths hanging around drinking and taking drugs, leaving beer cans, used condoms and syringes behind.
Tenant Beryl Davies said: "We lived on the Wharton estate for five years and never had any trouble, but we came here and it is horrendous."
Designated parking is at the Barton Stadium where cars have been targeted by vandals and thieves, and the borough council will not permit them to park outside their homes because it is a pedestrianised area.
Mrs Davies' car was broken into twice, before it was eventually stolen and dumped in the river.
On one occasion when her son was visiting he had a similar problem when his car locks were smashed.
Many of the residents want to see the provision of suitable parking outside their bungalows and the trees removed as they feel they cause problems of overgrown roots and slippery leaves.
Maureen Brown, another tenant, said: "Why don't the council shift those trees and lay a few flags down? It won't cost much, it will be safer and people can keep an eye on their cars."
A borough council spokesman said the housing department had agreed to make another visit to Wesley Court to assess the tenants' parking needs.
