Charity hopes to use centre as base once a week
AGE Concern is set to finally have a presence in Winsford in the new year after identifying the Dingle Centre as an ideal base for their services.
The centre is generally unused on Mondays with just a few people dropping in, but Age Concern has a plan to make the best use of its resources early in the week.
Last Monday, Gill Clough, Age Concern Services Director, gave a presentation to Winsford Town Council suggesting that Age Concern could use the centre on Mondays and the town council agreed that it was a good idea.
The scheme would involve a club where older people can get together, relax and generally socialise, but volunteers are needed to help out.
Another possibility is to use the centre to set up a stall to make people aware of the many services they offer.
Volunteer work would involve organising activities for elderly people between around 9.30am and 3.30pm, this would be on a rota basis.
Gill said: "These will be the sort of activities older people want to do, and it is about having a fun day.
"It will be like a social club for people who cannot get out and about of their own accord."
Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer can ring Age Concern on 01606 781406 and ask for Gill Clough.
