Bank Quay Bulls...12
Haydock...40
HAYDOCK seem to be the Bulls' bogey side.
The wholehearted display by the Bulls did not reflect the score as Haydock capitalised on superior fitness.
This Lancashire Cup semi-final saw a gutsy performance from the Bulls, who were credited by the opposing side and highly graded referee Robert Connolly.
The Bulls got off to a jittery start as Haydock scored with their first attack.
Quay got their act together and it looked as if they would score with some good running through Ste Withnall and Carl Turner but opting to pass the ball on the last tackle backfired as the Haydock winger intercepted and ran the full length to score for a 12-point lead.
Quay answered back with second row Carl Turner running in out wide to score an unconverted try.
Haydock scored a penalty goal then Phil Byrnes went over after good handling by Paul Cragg and Damian Shaw.
With the score 14-8 at the interval Quay were still in the game.
Haydock scored with Bank Quay taking time to get back into the mood.
Lee Brown scored Quay's last try after Byrnes had floated the ball superby over the Haydock wing and centre.
Haydock then scored through some good off-loading.
Best for Quay were full back Ste Arnold, who was man of the match with elusive running and superb try-saving tackling throughout, followed by Withnall and Lee Smith.
