VILLAGERS turned out in force at a meeting in Lymm to show their overwhelming support for a blockade protest to development in the village.
The radical fuel protest-style demonstration is set to bring the village's roads to a standstill this month as residents take to the streets to make their feelings known to planners.
And if the turnout at the meeting is anything to go by, the effort has got a huge backing from villagers.
Resident and protest co-ordinator Andrew Wilson said after the meeting: "It was very good. The legal capacity of the hall was 100 and we filled that easily enough. Everybody was very keen to get involved.
"We ran through the issues, the objectives and the organisation of what we are going to do and as far as I am concerned, it's a goer."
The plan is for a two-way convoy to pass through the village, along Rushgreen Road, Higher Lane and Cherry Lane, in an hour of protest on Saturday, January 20, starting at 11am.
At least 40 people signed up on the night to be co-ordinators in the run up to the event.
Andrew added: "Word is beginning to spread further afield than Oughtrington and Heatley into the rest of Lymm and by the end of this we want to get a reputation as the most rebellious village in Britain."
