UP TO five inches of snow fell between December 27 and 28. It spelt misery for some - while others just had a fun time.
POLICE have warned drivers to be careful after Northwich and Winsford were coated in winter snow.
Emergency services had to deal with several minor traffic accidents during last Wednesday and Thursday's bad weather - but they stressed how easily any incident can lead to fatalities.
Traffic officer PC Bob James said: "It is about recognising the conditions and slowing down and leaving bigger gaps.
"Drivers need to look well ahead and anticipate what might happen in front of them.
"Many continue to drive as if the conditions are good and they should be patient and understanding towards more cautious and nervous drivers.
"It does not take a lot for a minor accident to turn to damage, serious injury and even fatalities."
The Meteorological Office confirmed that the North West had suffered up to five inches of snow during December 27 and December 28 with temperatures dropping below freezing.
Some residents complained that major roads had not been gritted early enough.
But council workers were out gritting walkways for pedestrians.
Many of the region's motorways were reduced to two lanes with speed restrictions of 50mph and in-coming flights to Manchester Airport were delayed.
Arriva buses also faced some delays but their normal service was largely unaffected.
An ambulance spokesman added: "If the weather deteriorates this winter, avoid driving unless it is essential and allow more time to reach destinations."
