A SAFETY scheme is finally in the pipeline for traffic-choked Booth Lane after years of campaigning by residents and councillors.
The busy road has seen several accidents including the tragic death of 34-year-old John Hunt, of Kitfield Avenue, three years ago.
Residents have been calling for safety measures in fear of another tragedy and their campaign was backed by town mayor Clr Dave Sutton.
And it looks like they will now get their wish after the completion of a safety audit by Cheshire County Council.
At the last town council meeting, Middlewich's County Clr Russell Watkinson said: "There is a scheme now on the drawing board for Booth Lane. Hopefully it can reduce the number of accidents.
"The officers of the county council will give details as soon as the scheme is finalised, but it could possibly include a road gateway and improved signs on the road."
Town mayor Clr Dave Sutton said: "This appears to be a step in the right direction and I look forward to the full details when they are decided. Anything to improve safety on Booth Lane is absolutely excellent news."
