BARNTON & Frodsham Angling Club's third round of the Scotts Shield took place on Christmas Eve at Heesom's Pool, winner on the day being Trevor Jones who drew peg 43.
Pole and pinkie at seven metres took a carp of around the 1-10-0 mark early on plus a single ide in the later stages for a combined weight of 2-0-14 from the rain lashed venue.
Second spot went to Chris Parry with a net of skimmers with odd ide for 1-15-4 taken on long pole and worm from peg 40.
Roy Garton filled the frame with 0-8-8 of tip caught perch on worm from peg 45.
By the time Christmas was over and New Year was approaching nearly all of the north west's still waters were frozen.
The New Year's Eve match, the fourth in the Scott's series had to be switched from the top and middle cisterns, which were covered in two inches of ice, to Heesom's Pool, which had clear water down the right hand side.
Match secretary Peter Moore had a convincing win from peg 54, catching the only fish in the match in the last 10 minutes courtesy of a small 1oz perch taken on single pinkie at 10 metres on pole. The rest of the field blanked in the very cold conditions.
This result has shot Peter into the lead in the competition with 74 points, followed by Arthur Kennedy on 72 and Paul Cafferty on 68.
