PROLIFIC UniBond League striker Gregg Blundell is on the verge of joining Northwich Vics for a fee in the region £10,000
Manager Keith Alexander agreed a sum with Division One leaders Vauxhall Motors on Friday to secure the services of the division's top scorer.
However, as he would have been cup tied for the trip to Matlock Town in the FA Trophy, he will still be appearing for Vauxhall on Saturday.
"The deal is done and dusted, but it will probably be Monday before he's with us now," said Alexander.
"It's not really a problem because he couldn't have played with us anyway so Vauxhall want him on Saturday. But he could have come down, had a look at the place and taken part in training."
For Alexander, Blundell's statistics speak for themselves, but he remains guarded as to whether he can transfer his form into the Conference.
"He's scored 100 goals over the past two seasons and has 21 in 18 this," said Alexander. "Whether he can do it at a higher level remains to be seen."
The boss also added to his forward line last week by signing Richard Mitchell from Nuneaton Borough for £3,000 in time for Saturday's Conference game with Hereford United.
The former Stafford Rangers striker made a great start to his Drill Field career by scoring the only goal of the game.
Anthony Henry is also back, possibly until the end of the season, following his original month's stay on loan from Lincoln City in November.
The only reason Henry didn't make more of an impact then was because his appearances for Vics were restricted by being ineligible for FA Cup matches.
Midfielder Ian Robinson has also arrived, a player who Alexander has now given to and taken from Hednesford Town, having sold him to the Midlanders when they were together at Ilkeston.
Henry and Robinson also played their part in the Hereford win, a result which delighted the manager.
"Nobody expected us to win, but we showed fighting spirit and it was a great result," said Alexander.
The 1-0 win put Vics back in 15th place in the Nationwide Conference, but Alexander is determined to make the most of their seven remaining home games to keep clawing away from the relegation trap door.
"I always expect to get a result, and we have got to get something from all our home games now if we're going to stay in the division we're in.
"That was a great result on Saturday if not a great performance, but we'll have a lot more like that before the end of the season."
