But the wild boar that has been roaming around Tabley for six months was caught off guard on Sunday - and shot dead as she slept.
But yesterday (Tuesday), her final resting place remained a mystery.
"They found where she was hiding about a week ago but waited until she was helpless before shooting her," said one animal lover in a call to the Knutsford Guardian.
"They had the chance to capture her and let her live but they chose to kill her and that makes me angry."
The boar - nicknamed THe Tabley Tearaway - escaped from Jackson's Abattoir in July just minutes before being slaughtered.
At the time owner Elaine Parsonage, of Arley Wild Boar Farm, said: "She will be turned into pork chops if we find her."
In the weeks following her diappearance, the 130lb pig became the talk of Heyrose Golf Club in Tabley after being spotted running past the 17th hole.
Posters warning golfers to 'beware the club boar' were put up around the club.
Shortly after there was a sighting at the Cuckoo Clock Museum, and in September farmers cutting corn in a field, near the slaughterhouse, saw the £300 boar sprint by.
"She had as much right to live as any other animal," said the animal lover. "But I guess it's too late now."
