There is a question of when a reader's letter is not a reader's letter, a quite extraordinary and rather menacing suggestion that your paper is inciting racial hatred and what I imagine Powell once referred to when he spoke of 'pulpit socialism.'
Regrettably, there are those who allow emotion to cloud judgement when their convictions appear to them to be questioned.
However honest the reporting or reasoned the arguments may be, their reactions are unreasonable and often excessive.
So much for the rational opinions I had hoped for.
When the race card is played, it is the accuser who actually plays it.
This tells us a lot more about him than the person he accuses.
