Vale U11...8
EGERTON played their first game in weeks away at Congleton in the District Cup.
Vale are in a division above them but for 15 minutes it didn't really show.
On a bitterly cold day and playing downhill Egerton needed to go in at half-time in front.
But two quick goals for Vale towards the end of the first-half spoiled this for Egerton.
Man of the match Tommy Hassel, the Egerton goalkeeper, kept the score down but in the second-half the floodgates opened.
Egerton couldn't get the ball out of their own half and time after time Vale beat the offside trap and shots rained down on Hassel in the Egerton goal.
He managed to save a lot, but with the defence all at sea and the mid-field nonexistent he was powerless to stop a further six.
The Vale goalkeeper was a virtual spectator due to the lack of service to the Egerton forwards.
Egerton return to league action next week and will have to play much better to get back on the promotion trail.
