A WOMAN appeared before magistrates in Oldham yesterday, Monday, charged with the murder of a young man whose dismembered body was discovered in a smashed up car in Burtonwood.

Julie Barker, 41, also known as Julie Crawford, who originates from Henley Street in Chadderton, but who has recently been residing at Winpenny House, made no plea when she appeared before Oldham magistrates yesterday, Monday, and was remanded in police custody.

The body of Ryan Paul Hetherington, 25, of Thompson Lane in Chadderton, was discovered wrapped in laundry bags in the back of a red Volkswagen Polo which had ploughed into a motorway embankment on Wednesday night.

Police and paramedics stumbled across the grim find just after 10pm when a passing motorist called emergency crews after spotting a crumpled car in a lay-by, yards from the Burtonwood service station.

Barker, a 46-year-old man and a 33-year-old man, from the Oldham area were released from the car and taken to Warrington Hospital.

The 46-year-old man is still being quizzed by detectives and remains in police custody. The other passenger has been released on bail.

Later, scene of crime officers scoured three houses in Oldham for evidence.

A 21-year-old man, also from Oldham, who was arrested and questioned on Thursday has been released without charge.

And on Friday night, police arrested a 51-year-old man from Oldham on suspicion of murder. He was questioned by police over the weekend and has been released on bail.

Barker is due to appear for a second time before Oldham magistrates on Monday.
