IT was the end of an era for ICI workers in Northwich last week.

The Imperial Chemical Industries giant finally handed its Chlor-Chemicals businesses over to new owners Ineos as part of a £325 million takeover deal.

There had been fears that more than 155 employees at the company's Lostock plant and Holford Brinefields would lose their jobs as a result of long-term plans by the Belgian-based group.

But under the terms of the agreement, Ineos were unable to communicate directly with workers until the deal was completed.

Sessions are now expected to take place with regional union leaders over the next few weeks to discuss future plans for the operation.

Callum McClean, incoming Chlor Chief Executive, said: "The company has a clear focus and an enviable track record of buying companies like ICI and making them once again profitable and successful."
