TWO crashes in two days on a busy Crewe road have left one person dead and several others injured.

Both crashes happened on the A500 link road between Weston and the M6 motorway and the air ambulance service was called in to fly one victim to hospital.

The first crash happened at around 1.10pm on Friday afternoon last week on the A500 at Barthomley near to Junction 16 of the M6 motorway.

The accident happened 100 yards away from the junction with the motorway when an ice cream van travelling west and a Maroon Honda Accord travelling east collided.

The 67-year-old female driver from the Wirral was trapped and had to be released by firefighters from Crewe Station before being airlifted to North Staffordshire Hospital.

The 31-year-old Bristol driver of the ice-cream van suffered serious leg injuries.

The second incident, involving four vehicles, took place on Saturday when a man was killed in a collision while his car was overtaking further down the same road.

The incident happened at 10.58am when a Volkswagen Passat collided head on with a Heavy Goods Vehicle after it attempted to overtake a line of traffic.

The driver of the Passat, Douglas Evans, aged 50 from near Chester, was rushed to hospital with multiple injuries but was pronounced dead on arrival.

His 18-year-old son, who was also in the car, suffered slight injuries and the 36-year-old Wybunbury driver of the HGV was treated for shock.

Two other cars were caught in the aftermath of the accident and the drivers were also treated at the scene with three people in total being taken to Leighton.

Two fire engines attended the scene from Crewe Fire Station and witnesses are sought for both incidents.
