ANGRY Stockton Heath residents say that they have had enough of an off-licence which, they claim, has made their lives a misery.

People from Cawdor Street, Bedford Road, Heath Road and Farrel Road turned out at the latest Stockton Heath Parish Council meeting to object to the renewal of a licence to serve alcohol at the Cawdor Street Bargain Booze.

Residents say that youths loiter outside the off-licence and create a disturbance with their anti-social behaviour.

They are also concerned at the number of cars which roll up outside their houses and which are often left with their engines running. There are also concerns about delivery vehicles which reverse at the back of the shop.

But Dave Critchley, who owns Bargain Boozes across Warrington, said that in 15 years of business he had never had trouble with renewing a licence.

He said that because the off-licence sells a lot of produce to shoppers all at once, there is less disturbance to the peace than other retail stores.

He said: "We also operate a 21 policy which stops anybody who does not look 21. They must show identification. Then if they can prove they are 18 we will serve them."

He said he has never seen any anti-social behaviour outside the Cawdor Street off-licence and when he received reports that there had been a disturbance, he drove around the area for a week but didn't spot any trouble.
