THE emotional experiences of the dad of two heroin addicts have struck a chord with GUARDIAN readers.
In last week's paper, Frank, of Bewsey, told how two of his sons became addicted to smoking the killer drug and said there should be more education to stop children ever getting hooked on heroin.
One mum, who read Frank's story, told the GUARDIAN that he is not alone.
"It was like reading my own story," she said. "My son has been clean twice, but to do this I have sent him away from Warrington and he's returned looking so healthy.
"But within months, he was back on heroin again. As Frank says, at the end of the day, he is my son and I love him."
And she says the problem is more widespread than people think. "I have neighbours whose sons have died because of this drug," she added, "boys who my own children went to school with. Unless you have thousands of pounds to spend at a Harley Street clinic, you have no chance. Treatment should be more widely available."
A second mum agreed.
"There just isn't enough help out there," she said, "and you have to wait too long.
"People who are addicted to heroin need attention quickly.
"I'm still hoping that my child can beat the drug."
THE GUARDIAN is backing Frank's campaign and would like to hear from anyone affected by the menace of drugs.
