A CORONATION Street-style campaign has been launched in Grappenhall to save the village's cobbled street.
And the GUARDIAN, Parish Clr Ted Lafferty and parish clerk Damian Boddy have joined forces in a bid to enlist the support of William Roache, alias Ken Barlow from Coronation Street, to help keep the cobbles in the village.
Heavy vehicles driving through the village, an increase in congestion and rainwater are said to be causing the cobbles to erode.
The parish council is calling for the council to give priority to clearing leaves and debris from the Church Road footpath, cut back shrubbery by the Old Rectory and clear the gully near to the historic stocks.
It also wants the borough council to sort out the drainage by tracing the source of the excess water, and clear Narrow Lane to make it a safe route for schoolchildren.
And it wants to see a long-term commitment to traffic management in the village and the preservation of the conservation area to ensure that the cobbles are here to stay.
The GUARDIAN is expecting a reply from William Roache next week, and in the meantime, campaigners are hoping that 'Ken' can help to save a second set of cobbles.
