CONGLETON Town Council is being asked to become more involved in supporting a range of services in the town.
The call has come from Congleton Borough Council, which says it is no longer able to provide such a wide range of services in Congleton.
Borough community director David Dingle has written to the town council seeking its increased involvement in some or all of the services provided by the borough.
He said such involvement and commitment from the town council was necessary to ensure the continued availability and improvement of these services.
"The borough council has undertaken the direct provision and maintenance of a range of facilities and services since 1974," said Mr Dingle.
"In the majority of cases it has become clear that the future provision of such a wide range of services in every main town in the borough is no longer sustainable."
The borough is responsible for Congleton Town Hall, Leisure Centre and Park, Bromley Farm Community Centre, Fellowship House, Biddulph Valley Way and Back Lane Playing Fields.
It also has responsibility for eight play areas in the town and five luncheon clubs.
Mr Dingle has also written to Alsager Town Council seeking its support for more involvement in providing community services.
