SECURITY is to be increased at Biddulph Town Hall in the wake of a series of brawls at public functions.
A review of security was called for after an incident in August, the latest of a number which resulted in damage to council property.
They also put at risk the personal safety of the caretaker on duty at the time.
Another fight broke out at the town hall in November, and the police were called to break it up.
As a result of the problems professional security guards have been made available to help caretakers should they need it.
In addition district council officers have identified issues which need to be addressed.
The security of the caretaker's office, front entrance doors and main staircase should be improved.
A physical deterrent should be considered to stop people climbing on the roof.
CCTV needs to be improved at the town hall, and door access control and intruder alarm systems would improve security.
The caretaker's office window is earmarked for a security grille, and the room off the main foyer has been identified as a safe refuge for the caretaker should he need it during public functions.
The various issues emerged from meetings between Moorlands officers and town adminstrator Kate Thacker.
