HOUSE builders have bowed to the wishes of residents by scrapping plans to create a footpath and cycleway near their homes.
People living in Broadhurst Lane, Congleton, were concerned about the possible security risks of having a path running at the back of their homes.
They also claimed pedestrians and cyclists using the land would create noise and disturbance.
The path was part of plans by Bryant Homes to build 100 houses on land between West Road and Broadhurst Lane.
The scheme is the second phase of the housing redevelopment of a site formerly home to the Danesford Children's Home.
Bryant has also offered to scrap plans for a play area, and instead pay £40,000 to the borough council to improve existing play facilities in the vicinity.
The first phase boasts a play area, and councillors were concerned about the potential for rowdy behaviour at the second area, which was earmarked for an isolated location in phase two.
Letters are due to go out in the next few days to residents in Broadhurst Lane telling them of Bryant's offer to delete the path and play area from its scheme.
Residents would have three weeks to object, and planning chief Geoff Allen has been given the authority to approve the scheme should there be no opposition.
