AN UNUSUAL lifeline has been thrown to elderly people in the area suffering from memory loss.
The Library service in Cheshire has launched a scheme which makes use of historic artefacts to trigger people's memories.
The materials have been collated by Joyce Carrington, project officer for Cheshire Libraries and many residential homes in the area could benefit.
The collection features things such as old-fashioned toys, everyday household items from the past and the items are boxed up and sent out to residential homes throughout the county.
The materials are intended to stimulate discussion but Joyce is still on the look-out for more.
"This is an idea which really seems to have caught on," explained Joyce.
The materials have been collected from cubbyholes, attics and forgotten corners of houses across the area and another appeal has gone out for more items to replenish stocks.
"The only conditions are that items need to be smaller and cannot be returned," added Joyce.
"Quite often the simplest items elicit the most response, because they are familiar."
Anyone wishing to donate to the Reminiscence Boxes can contact their local library or get in touch with Joyce on 01244 606025.
