But now the international company is bringing its special brand of luxury products to share with the richer residents of Knutsford.

American Dream are planning to open a showroom in the town to sell hot tubs.

"Manchester was the next choice of venue after London and we think Knutsford is absolutely right for our product," said director Huw Chivers.

The company, whose clients also include Bill Gates, struck a deal with Meller Braggins for the former car showroom in Malt Street, off King Street.

The official opening by footballer Matt Yenson will lead to three new jobs.

On Monday, Alec Guthrie, spokesman for the Knutsford Business Enterprise, said any new firm would be a boost for the town.

"Other than the socially unacceptable ones, like sex shops, any business is good for the town," he said.

"It is a specialised market and will bring people into Knutsford who may not otherwise have come in."

American Dream's cheapest hot spring spa costs £3,500. The dearest is £10,000.

In America, one in five has made a garden feature out of the bubbling baths and the craze is catching on here.

For the past two years, the company has displayed its wares at the Royal Horticultural Society Flower Show at Tatton Park.

But its biggest boost came from the Big Brother housemates - the 10 strangers sealed off from the outside world without television, radio or the Internet for a unique Channel 4 game show.

Millions of viewers saw the housemates frolicking in one of the company's hot tubs.

"I went down to the house every day to make sure none of them would come to any harm and we were inundated with interest after the programme," said Mr Chivers.

"It shows that the English are willing to give these things a try."
