THIS frosty reception at Moss Farm on Saturday was typical of most of the country as Northwich RUFC's matches were postponed.

Warrington waited until late morning on Saturday before calling off the 1st and 3rd XV fixtures, while Northwich had already made a decision on the frozen pitches at Moss Farm 24 hours earlier.

In fact, as early as Thursday the club had booked the all-weather pitches to make sure there would be some training activity for the players.

These postponements followed the cancellation of the rescheduled Cheshire Cup tie against Birkenhead Park. This fixture, originally called off following the death of Northwich captain Shaun Bennett before Christmas, was to have taken place under Winnington Park's lights last Tuesday.

It was due to go ahead last night (Tuesday) to decide who would face cup holders and hot favourites to retain the trophy, New Brighton.

This Saturday, Northwich entertain Vagabonds from the Isle of Man in a South Lancashire/Cheshire Division One fixture.

Northwich lost the game in Douglas in October in a match that proved to be the last for coach Chris Brierley before being replaced by Andy Manicom.

The 2nd team is away to Sandbach and the 3rd XV at home to Chester.

A fund raising race night for the club is being arranged at Hartford Legion on Friday, January 26. Admission is £1 and the first race is off at 8pm.
