THE mother of a child injured in a road accident in Cinnamon Brow is appealing for motorists to take more care or avoid using the route altogether.
Dawn Walker, of Oban Grove, claims that unless urgent steps are taken, a fatal accident will soon occur on Enfield Park Road.
Dawn is urging parents of children who live nearby to walk their children to school to avoid adding to the congestion on the road.
Dawn's son Craig, aged 13, was on his way to school at Padgate High, when he was knocked down by a car. Although he sustained head injuries when he collided with the car windscreen, Craig has now made a full recovery.
Dawn said: "I would like to know what it would take to have a pelican crossing, lollipop lady or such installed, as so many children cross here to attend Cinnamon Brow Primary School or cross on their way to Padgate High School.
"I am aware that plans are under way to install speed bumps, but you tell that to my son or any other child who has been involved in a car accident on this road."
Parents of children who attend both schools claim that the road is treated as a race track by some motorists.
Poulton North councillor Albert Clemow said: "The traffic calming measures on this road are very badly needed, but the proposals are very comprehensive and range from crossings and mini-islands to speed ramps.
"The scheme should be fully completed by May with the minimum of inconvenience, safeguarding both schoolchildren and the elderly.
"I had not been informed about this latest incident, but I hope that the traffic calming measures will solve the problem and prevent any further incidents."
