RUMOURS of bankruptcy at Edison Emission Energy who run Fiddler's Ferry Power Station have been put to rest and workers told their jobs are safe.

The fears began with bankruptcy at Southern California Edison after the privatisation of the electricity industry in the USA and power price rises.

But corporate director of Edison Emission Energy Jonathan Green says theirs is a separate company with separate financial matters and there is no risk.

"There is an extremely difficult situation in California with having to buy power more expensively but it does not affect Edison Emission Energy.

"Jobs at Fiddler's Ferry are safe."

The company is a subsidary of Edison International.
