THE mother of a teenager who was attacked by a dog at the weekend has called for the animal to be destroyed.

Daniel Wright was with friends in the early hours of Saturday at a house in Brindley Avenue, Latchford, when police were called to a neighbouring house.

A commotion followed, during which a dog, believed to be similar to a Staffordshire bull terrier, got out of control. Daniel and his friends were nearby, watching what was happening and the dog attacked his foot.

Police officers struggled to free Daniel from the grip of the dog and in doing so, his foot was torn and badly injured.

The 18-year-old, from Mersey Walk, was taken to Warrington Hospital, where his foot has since been operated on twice.

Following the events of Saturday morning, a woman has been charged with a public order offence and released on bail to appear before magistrates in Warrington on February 8 but no-one has been charged in relation to the dog.

Meanwhile, Daniel's mum, Denise, is calling for the animal to be destroyed.

She said: "The dog hasn't been put down, even though police officers were there when the attack happened. Nothing's been done, which is terrible. I'm disgusted."

Daniel has numerous wounds and torn skin and will need internal and external stitching, according to Denise.

"I want the dog put down in case it gets hold of another lad, because I've seen what it's done to mine," she added.

A police spokesman said: "Police can prosecute the owner and apply for a destruction order for the dog once a complaint has been made."
