A MAN was found at the foot of Thelwall Viaduct on Monday night, suffering from a very serious head injury.
The man, believed to be in his 30s, was discovered lying in a ditch under the viaduct at Warrington Road in Lymm.
A member of the public alerted the emergency services and firefighters were involved in opening a gate to allow paramedics to get to him.
They believe the man, who suffered a head injury, could have fallen up to 100 feet and been lying there for around 45 minutes before help arrived.
A spokesman said: "If that is the case then he is very lucky to be alive."
He was taken to Warrington Hospital, where he was identified by family.
Police say there are no suspicious circumstances.
