HAVING read the all of your articles on the subject of the new stadium, I felt I had to say a few words that perhaps only I could comment on. In doing so I hope the club do not think I have spoken out of turn but in this instance I am speaking as a fan.
This coming season will be the sixth year that I have been the club's mascot. In that time I have seen the number of children attending home matches increase 10 fold. The look of excitement in their eyes and the smiles on their faces speak volumes for the overall effort of everybody at the club. The community programme is touching hundreds if not thousands of children and I feel priviliged to have played a part in that. I am asked on numerous occasions to attend school fetes, corporate openings, prize givings and various parties. Once again it's the children who are touched by the club.
I wonder how this positive activity affects the minds of these children and the people who care for them. It is impossible to say. But what if the club was no longer in a position to involve the children of Warrington in its community programme or its matchday experience. Some would get involved in other pastimes and others could be led astray into all sorts of mischief. Again it is impossible to say. However, one thing I am sure of is it's not worth taking the risk. Any work that has a positive affect on children has to be nurtured and built upon.
Some of the letters and notes I receive from the children tell me they enjoy what they are experiencing. The comments from their parents echo the children's smiles and thoughts.
To those who would gladly let the club die ask yourself a question. What would the children do if there were no Cubs, Girl Guides, Scouts, Youth clubs or activity centres. We hear it all the time in the media, "There are not enough things for the children to do to get them off the streets".
The Warrington Wolves can and do provide another alternative. Don't let this opportunity slip by.
Give your support to the stadium, give your support to the Wolves, give your support to the children of Warrington.
