HASN'T Warrington learnt anything from its food and booze obsession. It has totally taken over our town to the exclusion of everything else. Now our planners are to consider extending this "merry" mess to the Stockton Heath Conservation Area vomit and stale curried pavements and all. SURELY COMMON SENSE WILL PREVAIL.
In the 1980s the WASH Conservation Group formed because of residents' concerns over the future of the village centre. Their greatest fears are now being realised. It obviously was not enough to get conservation and listed status awarded in part, as this would seem to count for absolutely NOTHING now.
Next let us consider the listed police building. All the front original leaded windows were removed. How can this be allowed to happen to a listed building? In other areas great care is taken to either replace like with like or to sandwich the original windows in order to protect and insulate both window and building.
Next let us look across the road at the proposed development site. Looks an eyesore doesn't it?
Next we had a Christmas visit from the demolishers. Further buildings disappeared on London Road during the Christmas lull. I contacted parish councillors at Christmas, inquiring about the site. No knowledge of demolition was known of or at least admitted to. I scoured the area for planning notices to no avail. Wow! Days after the demolition, notices were posted near the Mulberry Tree informing residents of the proposed plans and demolitions. Just what is going on?
Can the ratepayers of Stockton Heath have some answers from our town leaders via the GUARDIAN? We expect better from our unitary authority than it appears we are getting. We never had nonsense like this under Cheshire County Council. Why are we having it now? Have the people of the north, south, east and west of Warrington centre to become radical to be consulted and listened to? I hope not, but I can see it happening very soon if this council does not get its act together.
