West Hull...19 Woolston Rovers...8

A DISAPPOINTING performance from Rovers saw them slip to defeat at title rivals West Hull in the National Conference League Premier Division on Saturday.

Scrum half Steve Martin scored a try in response to Hull's opening six points.

Rovers then levelled with a Martin penalty goal but West Hull edged back in front with a drop goal.

A second Martin penalty gave Rovers the lead but in the final minute of the half West Hull substitute Lee Roberts crashed over to give the home side an 11-8 interval advantage.

Rovers were unlucky when the referee adjudged that full back Mark Wallington had been tackled just short of the line in the second half.

West Hull then scored what turned out to be the game-breaking try with 10 minutes to go.

A long kick was collected by winger Glyn Jones and his quick play-the-ball stretched the Rovers defence and centre Carl Moore went over for a four-pointer.

Jones slid over in the corner to confirm the Humbersiders had stretched their lead over Rovers at the top to three points with two games in hand.

Rovers: Mark Wallington; Mark Cosgrove, Tim Iddon, Paul Fiddler, Mark Moran; Graham Smith, Steve Martin; Shaun Geritas, Drew Povey, Lee Westwood, Stewart Cash, Dave Patterson, Daniel Heaton. Subs: Kevin Airey, Mark Shephard, Phil Dermott, Graham Muckalt.
