THE LIFE and Times of Bess of Hardwick' is the subject for the March meeting of Nantwich Historical Society, to be held at 7.45pm on Wednesday, March 7, at Nantwich Library.
A contemporary of Elizabeth I, Bess was a remarkable woman who, through a series of astute marriages, rose to wealth, power and influence.
She built many houses, the most famous of them being Hardwick Hall in Derbyshire - 'more glass than wall' - and out-lived most of her contemporaries.
Visitors are welcome, with admission £1.
