A NEW crackdown is being staged in the West End of Crewe to tackle anti-social behaviour.
The initiative has been launched by Crewe Police and Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council to address problems faced by residents in the area.
The police in the West End will be working alongside borough council agencies such as Housing and Social Services as part of the scheme.
Sgt Martin Baker of the West End Police explained: "We have always had an excellent working relationship with council agencies and we are now building on these relationships to actively address a number of Active Neighbourhood Initiatives," he said.
"In one case an anti-social behaviour order was used against one particular West End family whose actions blighted an otherwise peaceful area," continued Sgt Baker.
"Eventually, through co-operation with officials from the borough council housing division, the family finally left the area."
The scheme relies partly upon the residents doing their bit by helping the police and regular community surgeries are to be held to give residents a chance to voice concerns.
Ian Gough, Safer Communities Manager with the borough, said: "The council will enforce tenancy agreements in appropriate circumstances and work with our partners to ensure that criminal activity is dealt with appropriately."
The next surgery has been lined up for Tuesday May 29 and will be held at St Barnabas Church Hall in West Street.
"Do come and speak to us and let us know how we can be of help in the future," added Sgt Baker.
