Macclesfield's joint highways team plan to study the flow of Manchester-bound traffic on King Edward Road.
But this week, a town councillor submitted his own plans for improving rush-hour jams at Canute Place roundabout.
"The traffic in that area needs to be calmed down because there is a lot of road rage at the roundabout," said Clr George Walton.
"Every morning there are horns blowing because too many cars are trying to get on to the roundabout at the same time."
Clr Walton believes over-eager drivers, creating two lanes of traffic on King Edward Road, are to blame.
"It is only meant to be one lane but drivers overtake in an attempt to get to the roundabout quicker and it causes chaos," he said.
He believes the solution is obvious - and cheap.
He said by moving the road markings to create a narrower lane approaching the roundabout, drivers would have no choice but to stay in one lane.
"All it takes is a bit of paint," he said. "I think it would help to make everyone calmer and improve safety for all."
It is not yet known when Macclesfield will carry out its own review of the town's traffic troubles.
