Winsford United 1 Radcliffe Borough 2
THIS defeat brings the spectre of a second successive relegation a distinct prossibility.
Player/manager Stave Shaughnessy blasted the attitudes of certain players after the game and warned United that relegation is certainly on the cards unless changes are not made to the squad soon.
"We need some experienced lads here to work with the youngsters but I am working to a strict budget," he said.
United started the game well and took the lead on 13 minutes.
A Kelvin Leanly free kick was hooked into the area by David Low and as Radcliffe keeper Danny Hurst stumbled against one of his defenders, David Mayes took advantage by rising the highest and heading in.
The match was a good even contest in the first half and it was no surprise when Boro' equalised on 22 minutes.
Radcliffe signed Liam Croxton from Droylsden only hours before the game and the midfielder enjoyed acres of open space in the area before firing a low shot past keeper Dave Pierce.
Winsford went from bad to worse after the goal and Radcliffe dominated the second half, gaining their reward in the 55 minute.
Andy Burns brought veteran striker Spike Carter and Lee Kissock sent Pierce the wrong way from the penalty spot.
Despite looking second best Utd should have gained a point near the end when Ronnie Goldbourne, in the clear, chipped keeper Hurst but the ball rolled the wrong side of the post.
On the positive side Utd continue to blood promising youngster Stuart Tulloch who again enjoyed a run out in the last 15 minutes and didn't look out of place.
UTD: Pierce, Morley, Pollitt, Burns, Lowe, Goldbourne, Mayes Langley, Sculley, (Worthington 69) Tulloch (Crowley 78) Hennessey.
Attendence: 134.
MoM: David Lowe
