THE top two in the first division of the Northwich & District Pool League meet tonight in a match that will have a big influence on the outcome of the championship.

Rudheath and Winnington Park continued to pull away from the rest of the pack with wins last Wednesday.

Winnington Park had a fine 3-2 win over Greenbank, but Rudheath went three points clear at the top after their 7-0 thrashing of Thatched Tavern, their second successive whitewash in the league.

Rudheath are playing their first season under their new name, after winning the double as Lion & Railway for the second successive year in 2000.

Meanwhile, Barnton BL also recorded their second consecutive 7-0 win when they beat Green Dragon A.

At the foot of the table Owley Wood's 4-3 defeat by Coachman A leaves them struggling to get away from the bottom.

In Division Two, Blue Barrel look comfortable with a 17-point lead, while in the battle fro second place Green Dragon B beat Farmers Arms 6-1 to put them neck and neck.
