ROWING fanatic Mike Crossley is aiming to make it all the way to Majorca and into the record books for Comic Relief without even moving an inch!
The 44-year-old is set to row 1,000 miles for the charity, the equivalent distance of Warrington to Majorca, by mounting his trusty rowing machine.
Mike, who rows at Fordton Leisure Centre and lives in Warrington, has already rowed one million metres to raise money for Comic Relief in the run-up to Red Nose Day on Friday, March 16.
But because he finished the task in half the allotted time, he has decided to carry on the mammoth fundraising effort as part of the 2001 Red Nose Row.
And in a bid to raise as much cash as possible, Mike has created his own dedicated website www.giants.freeserve.co.uk where people can fill in sponsor forms and check out his progress.
He said: "It's easy. All you have to do is log on, fill in a simple on-line form and click the send button. The World Wide Web will do the rest."
Mike's challenge, inspired by Britain's 2000 Olympics champions, has had other positive effects on his life.
He added: "I saw what the four rowing giants did during the 2000 Olympics and realised that I just had to have a bash and now the pounds are rolling off me and into the hands of people in the UK and Africa who really need them."
Mike intends to culminate his challenge with a row at Asda Westbrook on Red Nose Day.
