A PUPPY which was clinging on to a piece of wood was dragged from a canal on Bewsey Road by Warrington firefighters.
The terrier, called Trixie, was found just after 8pm on Sunday.
One of the firefighters climbed down the bank and rescued the puppy before she was taken back to the fire station on Winwick Road.
The kind-hearted firefighters went out and got Trixie some dog biscuits and wrapped her in a blanket before the RSPCA arrived and returned her to her owner.
A spokesman for the RSPCA said: "People should not allow dogs to stray. We would encourage people to be more vigilant in terms of where their dogs are going."
