IN answer to your reader "Dismayed" the solution is in their own hands. I am a member of the sub and residents' committee of the Grasmere and Greenwood estate.
Once it was one of the most notorious estates in Warrington where no-one wanted to live, yet now, in a complete turnaround, we have a waiting list for houses. This has been achieved with the committee working hand in hand with the borough council, our local councillors and the residents who care.
It has been a long, hard road but at last the community is reaping the benefits of the residents who are prepared to spend a few hours a week to discuss local issues and priorities. I would like to invite your reader to our next estate walkabout on March 15 at 1pm, starting at the community centre. Members of the committee, along with council officers, walk round the estate inviting residents to voice their views and discuss any problems. They are invited back to the centre for a cup of tea to encourage them to become involved with the community.
A community is not just about bricks and mortar, it is about the people who live in it.
