COMMENTS were made about the fighting straight after the Wolves' clash with Wigan Warriors was completed.

Rugby Football League's director of rugby Greg McCallum was scathing.

He said: "The message has got to get out that, yes it is a tough game, but we're not going to tolerate misconduct on the field.

"What went on out there tonight was absolutely disgraceful. No control was shown in the second half.

"The first 25 minutes was outstanding. Warrington played strongly and tackled well. They put Wigan under pressure.

"And then for some reason the game deteriorated after that. In terms of discipline it was one of the worst games I have seen for years.

"Players were taking the law into their own hands. I've never seen so much stuff going on in back play.

"It was a throw-back to the 1970s and we will not tolerate it.

"Whoever it is to blame they will pay the penalty because we're not having 28 weeks of that I can assure you."

Warriors coach Frank Endacott, who apologised to the game's authorities for his players' behaviour two days later, said: "I thought Warrington's tactics were obvious. They shook us enough to put us off our game plan but we didn't get sucked in to too many stupid incidents that would have resulted in one of our players getting a red card."
