ONE of Warrington Wolves' most consistent performers Danny Nutley took a lot of positives out of the team's opening Super League VI game against Wigan Warriors.

Despite his first ban, after being cited this week, and despite the 34-6 defeat, Nutley feels confident that the Wolves can build on their performance.

Prop forward Nutley, in his fourth season with the Wolves, said: "It isn't negative by me saying that it was a good start to the season for us. The scoreline meant nothing.

"I'm not saying it was a good performance as we've still got a lot to work on.

"But there was a lot of comradeship on the pitch. In past years the team has droppped away when the going got tough but we stuck together out there on Friday.

"Last season's team would have given up after Toa was sent off and the match would have been all over by half-time.

"But we all stuck together and that is something really positive which we can take into the next game against Villeneuve.

"There's heaps for us to build on, we must stay positive."

Nutley was happy with how the Wolves started out against Wigan.

He said: "There was no doubt we let Wigan back into the game. We had them under the cosh but we gave away a couple of penalties and their confidence level rose again.

"When we went down to 12 men we loosened up in the middle a bit and they took advantage of it. They have the players to be able to do that."

Nutley was in the thick of everything at the JJB Stadium, including a fighting incident with Francis Stephenson after the Wigan prop had blatantly obstructed Nutley off-the-ball.

The 27-year-old said: "It was the first Super League game of the season, there was a bit of adrenalin and players getting a little anxious which led to the couple of off-the-ball incidents."
