A 61-YEAR-old Moore woman was killed in a freak accident while she was out walking her dog on Saturday afternoon.
The woman was walking along the pavement on Runcorn Road in Moore when a maroon Rover 400 car left the carriageway on a bend and overturned, then came to rest on the pavement and struck the woman.
Stockton Heath firefighters and police were called to the scene just after 5.30pm.
Firefighters found the woman trapped under the car with anxious passers-by trying to get her out.
Fire crews lifted the car off her with pressure airbags and tried to resuscitate her before the ambulance arrived, but she was pronounced dead on arrival at Warrington hospital.
No other vehicles were involved in the collision, and the driver of the car, a man from Moore, escaped without any injuries but was treated for shock.
The woman's dog ran home after the collision and was discovered by police officers when they called at the woman's home address later that evening.
Police are expected to name the woman later this week once friends and relatives have been informed.
In the meantime, officers are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact the traffic office on 652222.
