JOAN Walford (nee Buckley) well remembers the time that she worked in Marks and Spencer. The years were 1942 to 1950.
She was made a supervisor after a year and her sister Dorothy also worked at the store as a window dresser.
"It's amazing just how many sisters worked there. When one joined another wanted to," said Joan.
Joan's husband used to work in ICI in Winnington and the couple used to live in Beswicks Road - they moved from Northwich in 1963.
She lives in York now but was prompted to send this photograph from 1944 after reading our Marks and Spencer features in recent Market Places.
The photograph was taken outside the door of the shop in Witton Street and has an unusual story behind it.
"I was working with Eileen Rowbottom, a supervisor and she had met an American GI and was going to the United States," said Joan.
"Before she went to America she wanted a photograph of all her workmates to take with her.
"She had a sister Teresa and also Aidie who worked at Marks and Spencer," Joan added.
