PLANNERS were expected last night, Tuesday, to approve an application to build sheltered flats for the elderly in Castle Street.
The site, formerly used by Lookers Garage, is within the Northwich Conservation Area.
It is proposed to construct buildings of two, three and four storeys to provide 53 one and two bedroomed apartments for the elderly.
There would also be a flat for a resident warden and 17 car parking spaces.
It is considered that the main issue will relate to the impact on the conservation area.
Anticipated development on the opposite side of Castle Street will mean design issues will be all the more significant, planners decided.
The application takes the opportunity to enhance the aspect to the park entrance from Town Bridge and takes account of improvements to this area which should be achieved though the development of the site fronting onto the river.
