CAMPAIGNERS have won a battle for vital safety measures on roads outside Middlewich High School.
Staff, parents and councillors teamed up to call for better road safety around the busy school after an 11-year-old boy was killed when he fell under the wheels of a bus in 1997.
And the campaign was stepped up after a 15-year-old girl was injured in an accident shortly before last Christmas.
Highways engineers eventually agreed last week to improved measures including renewing and extending existing zig-zag markings, new road markings at the school front and 'keep clear' signs.
Town mayor Dave Sutton said: "These measures have been a long time in coming and are badly needed. It is a step in the right direction."
