Winnington Park 6
Northwich 15
Lancashire & Cheshire Senior RU Colts League
WINNINGTON Park RUFC Colts were at home to neighbours Northwich RUFC last Wednesday night under lights at Burrows Hill.
Besides being a local derby, extra spice was added to the occasion with the two sides being joint league leaders, having each lost only one match this season.
Northwich took an early nine point lead with stand off Joe Wood kicking three penalties.
Winnington hit one penalty back, Wood kicked his fourth out of four attempts and the first half ended 12-6 to Northwich.
The pace was raised in the second half with strong pressure from Winnington who threatened the Northwich line on several occasions.
The Northwich defence was outstanding throughout and Park were denied the try they were seeking.
Northwich scored three more points from Wood's boot and held on to win.
NORTHWICH Colts gained revenge against the only team to beat them this season when they travelled to Chester on Sunday.
They are the only side to have lost one game and with four bonus points from their last win, are favourites to wrap up the Lancashire and Cheshire Colts League in their last two games.
Winger Huw Jones, who has made a successful step up into first team rugby over the last few weeks, used his pace to race clear for the first try, which Joe Wood converted to make it 7-0.
Chester kicked a penalty, but flanker Chris James crashed over for another try following scrum half Danny Rawling's break and Wood added his second conversion.
A defensive error let Chester in for a try before the break and the side turned round at half-time with Northwich leading 14-8.
In the second half Jones went over for his second try before Chester dominated the closing stages, having only one more try to show for it.
