KEITH Alexander wants to bring two more new faces to Northwich Vics before the transfer deadline at the end of this month.

This is despite the manager being keen to keep a settled side as they prepare for the final push towards their Conference survival target.

Next up is a trip to fellow strugglers Hayes on Saturday, following on from the 2-0 win over Dover at the Drill Field.

Alexander said: "I've tried to keep a settled side and I think that's beginning to pay dividends. The lads have worked their socks off and it's an easy job when the players are performing for you.

"I still want to bring a couple more in if I can because we've been short in midfield for weeks. But midfield players are like centre forwards, good ones are difficult to get hold of and cost a lot of money.

"I have a couple in mind and have made enquiries, but our financial situation is well documented and I am restricted."

Dean Walling should be fit for Saturday after missing the Dover match when he fell ill on the day, while Gary Fletcher is still struggling for full fitness, only lasting an hour on Saturday.

However, if a trial at Bolton Wanderers is successful, the teenager might yet be moving into First Division football before the end of the month.

The trip to Hayes gives Vics a chance to put behind them a dismal sequence of away matches (one draw and eight defeats in nine), the latest being last Tuesday's 4-0 hammering at Morecambe.

Alexander said: "Everybody will think that we've got a chance at Hayes because they're down there with us and it's a good opportunity.

"But most sides tend to do reasonably well at home and not so well away and we fall into that category. It's not something I like, but home form is important.

"Our remaining home games are not going to be easy so we need to pick up a couple of wins away from home.

"Really, we only have to lose one and we're right back in it and the last thing we want to do is go into the last week needing a couple of wins."

With this in mind, the manager may stick with his adventurous striking trio of Gary Fletcher, Gregg Blundell and Adie Mike at Hayes.

"If everybody's fit there's a good chance of starting with the same 11 as against Dover," Alexander added.

Northwich will next be in action at the Drill Field on a Sunday, when they face Rushden and Diamonds in the Conference.

This is on March 25, a fixture moved to avoid clashing with England's World Cup qualifier with Finland at Anfield on the Saturday.

Vics' home fixture with Kingstonian, postponed on December 30, has been re-scheduled for Tuesday, April 10.
