TRITON hockey club men's 1st X1 face a nailbiting end to the season after their fifth defeat in a row.
They went down 2-1 at home to champions Crewe Vagrants on Saturday after conceding two early goals.
The defeat saw them slip to third from bottom, two points above the relegation zone, with two games to play.
Triton were two down after only eight minutes, but rallied to pull a goal back just before half-time when skipper Simon Trenbirth scored from a well-worked penalty corner.
They created a number of good chances in the second half, but were unable to break down the Crewe defence.
Triton need a win and a draw from their final games to ensure top flight hockey next season.
Triton 2nds drew 1-1 at Chorley Brookfields, Carl Deaville putting them ahead in the second half.
Triton Ladies beat Leek 2-0 at home, Kath Rapley scoring both.
* The 1st X1 travel to Heywood tomorrow, the 2nds are at home to Rhyl, and the ladies travel to Dudley.
