I HAVE just read with incredulity, anger and disgust a letter written by Clr Hughes to the deputy PM, John Prescott. I have been away for a while so I missed the first breaking of all this. Clr Hughes is most insulting. A relative of mine is a Labour member of the planning committee (now, I think, called Development Committee) and is, in effect, accused with all the other Labour councillors of taking an irrational, improperly-arrived at decision. How insulting! My relative, who does not know I am writing this, is a most careful thinker and does what he feels to be RIGHT.
What lots of people say is that Clr Hughes has brought the Warrington Labour Party into disrepute. It is not just what he said about his fellow Labour councillors but the fact that he sent a secret letter in an underhanded way to Mr Prescott and did not have the courage to turn up at the planning committee in person. All of this is disreputable. I say again and so do others that this guy puts the local Labour people in disrepute.
He is also wrong. We can take another superstore. The town is still growing and my firm alone is growing again with another seven or eight people soon to be taken on for - yes - proper jobs!
This guy is underhanded and not trustworthy and is not a fit representative for our MPs and other councillors to put up with. How he can be the deputy on such an important council beggars belief and undermines the image of the other Labour councillors.
I call on Warrington Labour Party to do something about this and I must say so do lots of other people!
